Where to Eat Near Mt. Baker: Glacier, Maple Falls and Deming
Confirmed-open restaurants in Glacier, Deming and along the corridor, with hours and addresses — plus which long-running names have actually closed.
Your real options cluster in two spots: Glacier, the last town before the mountain, and Deming, further down the corridor. Maple Falls has grocery and fuel but little in the way of sit-down food. Between them, Kendall has a gas-station pizza counter worth knowing about if you're driving through hungry. Below is what's confirmed open, with addresses and hours, and one long-running name that isn't open anymore no matter what an old listing says.
Glacier: the last stop before the mountain
Glacier, at mile 34 on SR 542, is where most of the corridor's food options actually are. Three places are confirmed open:
Chair 9 Woodstone Pizza & Sports Bar, 10459 Mt Baker Hwy — well-reviewed, open, and the closest thing this corridor has to an après-ski institution.
Graham's Restaurant and Store, 9989 Mt Baker Hwy — running under Shirley Schmidt since December 2019. The restaurant serves Monday through Thursday from noon to 9 p.m. and Friday through Sunday from noon to 10 p.m. The attached store keeps longer hours, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and has an ATM if you need cash.
Wake 'N Bakery, 6903 Bourne St — the corridor's coffee-and-pastry stop, useful before an early trailhead start.
One name you'll see in older write-ups doesn't belong on this list anymore. Milano's Restaurant, at 9990 Mt Baker Hwy, shows as closed on Yelp as of this writing. We're not listing it as open, and you shouldn't plan a trip around it without calling first to confirm current status — a listing that says "closed" on one platform isn't always final, but it isn't something to bet a special dinner on either.
Glacier has no pharmacy, no urgent care, and no full grocery store — worth knowing if your trip depends on anything beyond what these three places serve. The nearest of any of that is Bellingham, 45 to 60 minutes down the highway. If you're staying in cabins near Glacier, plan a grocery stop before you arrive rather than counting on picking up much once you're there.
Deming: the corridor's actual landmark
Deming sits further down SR 542, around mile 15, and its food scene is smaller in number but anchored by a genuine destination.
North Fork Brewery, known locally as "the Beer Shrine," at 6186 Mt Baker Hwy, runs a brewery, pizzeria, and wedding chapel out of one building — an unusual combination that's made it a real landmark on this highway rather than just another roadside stop.
Welcome Store, 5565 Mt Baker Hwy, handles deli and liquor, open 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily — a solid option for a quick sandwich rather than a sit-down meal.
For fuel and basics rather than food specifically, Nooksack Market Center, also in Deming at 5048 Mt Baker Hwy, has the cheapest gas on the corridor and stays open 6 a.m. to midnight.
Kendall: a gas-station pizza counter worth mentioning
Kendall sits between Deming and Maple Falls, and while it's not one of the towns in this guide's title, it has one option worth flagging if you're driving the corridor hungry: Starvin' Sam's #15 Valero, 7519 Kendall Rd, runs Hot Stuff Pizza alongside its fuel pumps, open roughly 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. It's not a destination meal, but it covers the gap between Deming and Maple Falls at hours when little else on the highway is open.
Maple Falls: fuel and groceries, not restaurants
Maple Falls, at mile 28, is worth stopping at for supplies rather than a meal. Maple Fuels–Shell at 7797 Silver Lake Rd is the last fuel before the mountain — open 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and closed on Sundays, which is worth planning around if your trip lands on one. Crossroads Grocery, also in Maple Falls, is open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily and covers basics. Neither is a restaurant. For an actual meal, you're better off stopping in Glacier further up the highway or Deming further down it. Our guide to groceries, gas and supplies covers what's available here in more depth.
Why the options thin out so fast
This isn't a corridor with a restaurant scene in the usual sense, and it's worth setting that expectation before you arrive. Glacier is a settlement of a few hundred people at most, not a town built around dining. Deming is smaller still in terms of what's clustered along the highway. The businesses that do exist tend to double up on functions — Graham's is a restaurant and a general store, North Fork Brewery is a beer hall that also runs a wedding chapel — because a single-purpose restaurant wouldn't have enough year-round traffic to stay open on this stretch of highway. That's also part of why closures and ownership changes happen here more than in a denser market: the margin for a business relying on seasonal tourist traffic is thinner.
Self-catering is often the better plan
Given how few sit-down options exist, especially for anything beyond dinner, most guests staying multiple nights end up cooking at least some meals in the cabin rather than eating out every night. If that's your plan, stock up in Bellingham on the way in — it's the last stop with a full grocery chain — or use Crossroads Grocery in Maple Falls or Nooksack Market Center in Deming for basics along the way. Our guide to groceries, gas and supplies breaks down what each stop actually carries, which matters more here than it would somewhere with a supermarket around every corner.

One more name that's gone
If you've seen a general store called Everybody's Store mentioned for this area, it's worth a correction: the location, in nearby Van Zandt, has been reported closing after roughly 50 years in business. It was more of a general store than a restaurant, but it's exactly the kind of long-standing name that keeps circulating in older trip-planning content well past its actual closure. Don't build a stop around it.
This corridor has seen genuine turnover recently — restaurants and shops change hands, close, or cut hours more often than a five-year-old blog post would suggest. If a specific meal matters to your trip, a phone call the day before beats trusting any single listing, including this one.
Check the drive before you check the menu
Glacier and Deming are both reached via SR 542, and in winter the road matters as much as the restaurant. Check WSDOT's SR 542 alert page before heading out for a meal on the upper corridor, and mtbaker.us for current mountain conditions if your trip is tied to a ski day. A closure or one-lane restriction can turn a twenty-minute drive to Chair 9 into something considerably longer.
For drinks specifically, our guide to breweries and bars covers North Fork Brewery and Chair 9 in more depth. For coffee and breakfast, see our dedicated guide.
FAQ
Is Milano's in Glacier still open?
It shows as closed on Yelp as of this writing. Call before planning a visit — don't rely on an old listing either way.
Where's the best option for a sit-down dinner near the ski area?
Glacier has the corridor's most complete food options — Chair 9 and Graham's both serve full meals, and Glacier is about 17 miles and 30 minutes from the ski area itself.
Is there anywhere to eat in Maple Falls?
Not really, beyond grocery and gas-station basics at Crossroads Grocery. For an actual restaurant, continue to Glacier or backtrack to Deming.
What's open early or late?
Wake 'N Bakery in Glacier covers early mornings. Starvin' Sam's in Kendall, open roughly 5 a.m. to 11 p.m., covers the latest and earliest hours on the corridor outside Glacier and Deming.
Are there full grocery stores near the mountain?
No. Glacier has no full grocery — the nearest is Bellingham, 45 to 60 minutes away. Crossroads Grocery in Maple Falls covers basics but isn't a full-service store.
